Cambodia-based Nigerian footballer Harrison Chinedu has registered his name in the Guinness Book of World Records.
This comes on the heels of his world record breaking feat recorded as he balanced football on his head while walking on Sunday, March 6.
Chinedu trekked from the Redeemed Camp to the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
At the National Stadium, he trekked round the main bowl eleven times to break the record before trekking further eleven times to set a new record to break Indian soldier Naib Singh record.
Naib Singh held the world record for travelling the farthest distance balancing a football on the head after walking a total distance of 45.64km in his country in 2014.
Singh lowered the earlier record set by Bangladesh’s Abdul Halim, who travelled 15.2 Km balancing a football on his head at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka on October 22, 2011, to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.
However, Chinedu, smashed Singh’s record trekked a distance of 48.04 kilometers in 6 hours, 15 minutes to break the previous record set by Indian.
It was Dr. Rafiu Oladipo Sports Foundation (ROSF) that presented Chinedu with the platform to make the historic feat possible and the athlete expressed his appreciation for the opportunity.
He stated that his greatest challenge during the event was when he nearly had a muscle strain at Berger Bus Stop.
Chinedu said: “I’m grateful to Dr. Ladipo for making the dream a reality.
“I’m proud to be a Nigerian, and I have made Nigerians proud by setting a new record.”
Reacting shortly after, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, president of the foundation, who doubles as president of Nigeria Football Supporters Club, recalled that the foundation received less support at inception of the event.
“I am happy that it saw the light of the day in the end,” Ladipo remarked.
Ladipo described Chinedu as a Nigerian sports ambassador and pledged his foundation’s sponsorship for the athlete to “Tafisa 2016” championship.
“We are also committed to helping any talented Nigerian youth put the country’s name on the world map,” he concluded.
