Dora Nkem Akunyili
Prof. Dora Nkem Akunyili (OFR) was Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Information and Communications until December 16, 2010, when she resigned to seek to actualise her ambition of becoming the Senator representing Anambra Central in the National Assembly. She is an internationally renowned Pharmacist, Pharmacologist, Erudite Scholar, Seasoned Administrator, and a visionary leader. Before her appointment as a Minister on December 17, 2008, Prof. Akunyili was Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) of Nigeria. She has gained international recognition and won hundreds of awards for her work in pharmacology, public health and human rights. Born in Makurdi, Benue State of Nigeria on the 14th of July, 1954, Dora hails from Nanka and is married in Agulu, both in Anambra State of Nigeria.
She died in an India hospital on 7 June 2014 after a battle with Cancer
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (born 13 June 1954) is a globally renowned Nigerian economist best known for her two terms as Finance Minister of Nigeria and for her work at the World Bank, including several years as one of its Managing Directors (October 2007 – July 2011).
In 2011, Okonjo-Iweala was reappointed as Minister of Finance with the expanded portfolio of the Coordinating Minister for the Economy by President Goodluck Jonathan. She took a lot of heat, more-so than any other government official for the unpopular fuel subsidy removal policy by the Nigerian government which led to Occupy Nigeria protests in January 2012
