The Enugu State Government has renovated about 150 schools including the neglected school for the deaf and dumb.

Governor Sullivan Chime stated this at the weekend during the diamond jubilee celebration and national convention of the Queens School Enugu Old Girls Association (Nigeria), held on the school’s premises.

The governor, who was represented by his Special Assistant on Intergovernmental Matters and Multilateral Partnerships, Rita Mbah, also said that his administration approved the purchase and distribution of over 300 laptop computers to primary and secondary school children.

He added that many children were also offered scholarship up to university level in the state.

Recalling that the education sector was in a pitiable state, Chime stated that budgetary allocation to the tertiary institutions in the state had been increased by over 100 per cent.

The occasion attracted prominent old girls of the school, including the first female judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Rose Ukeje.

The Chairperson of Queens School Old Girls Association, Mrs. Margaret Nwagbo, said the school had produced prominent people in the society, adding that they decided to organise the event to see what they could do to improve facilities in the school.

Nwagbo said though they had done a lot for the school, including career talks to the students, they were still expecting funds to enable them to do more.

She expressed regrets that despite their efforts to source for funds, they were yet to come.

Nwagbo advised the students to work hard to excel like the old girls of the school, assuring them that they would continue to motivate them to be the best in the society.
