Breaking: PDP’s Ohuabunwa Beats Uzor Kalu To Win Abia North Senatorial Poll

Mao Ohuabunwa, the PDP candidate in the Abia North senatorial district election re-run, has been declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Ohuabunwa polled 26,009 votes to defeat PPA’s Orji Kalu (25,814 votes), APGA’s David Bourdex-Onuoha (13,633 votes), APC’s Lancaster-Okoro (976 votes) and Labour Party’s Oji Nwachukwu (147 votes).

Announcing the results on Sunday, March 6, the returning officer of the INEC, Ojike Nwankpa, declared Ohuabunwa winner.

At the end of collation of results on Saturday, March 5, he had mistakingly announced the election inconclusive.

Edwin Enabor, the head for the INEC education and publicity department said: “In a re-run election, a winner must emerge by simple majority. The margin of lead vis-a-vis the number of registered voters does not arise in a re-run election.”
