Pro-Biafra agitators have plans to approach Pope Fancis and the Vatican City for help following the prolonged detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).
The members of IPOB on Monday, February 29, stated the agitation for Kanu’s freedom will be taken to Pope Francis for mediation, The Authority reports.
According to the agitators, there is also need for Pope Francis to intervene into the killing of its members and injustice in the Eastern part of Nigeria.
This was contained in a press statement  in Nnewi, Anambra state by the spokesman of IPOB, Emma Powerful.

He disclosed that the group had made 5,500 calls to Pope Francis who accepted and assured to pray for the agitators and spoke about Biafra and its restoration.
He said: “The IPOB bombarded Pope Francis with 5,500 calls and the Pope accepted the calls and gave his word to make sure he talks about Biafra and the restoration of Biafra, and yesterday about 35,000 Biafra agitators in Europe, Asia and America visited the Pope at the Vatican City and the Pope and other Catholic leaders addressed them as Biafrans and prayed for them, the first time a world leader at that level addressed us and called us by the name Biafrans and prayed for us.
“We are therefore calling on other church leaders to condemn the killing of innocent protesters and agitators and the detention of an innocent man (Kanu) who did not break the law of a country we are not part of, a country that we are demanding our freedom from that they have forcefully taken and are killing us for demanding our freedom. This evil must be condemned by world leaders, whom we want to pray for us.
“We urge Christian leaders, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Anglicans worldwide, World Christian Society (WCS) and American Christians to pray for Biafra’s actualisation and freedom. This is the time to stand up for truth, because the Boko Haran who are killing people on daily basis have not been visited with the type of extrajudicial killings with which the APC government has visited us.”
