It will be recalled that the NLC had threatened that there will be a total shutdown within the state, if the workers were not recalled as they advised residents to stockpile foodstuff.

A 14-day ultimatum was issued to the state government to recall the sacked workers and tackle their unpaid salaries and other benefits.

Governor Rochas Okorocha had revealed that Imo state is broke and appealed to labour to cut short its planned protest. He insisted that in spite of the financial dilemma of the state, no worker was being owed any salary.

This comes just days after the governor came under heavy attack. He was recently slammed by Chief Emeka Ihedioha, the former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives.

Chief Ihedioha attacked Okorocha for the dismissal of over 3000 workers in 19 parastatals, agencies and departments by of the state.

Okorocha however said the workers were suspended and not sacked.
