EBONYI MAIDEN CARNIVAL DEBUTS THIS WEEK

Ebonyi Maiden Carnival festival in Nigeria, also tagged “In God We Stand,” was created as part of the vision of making the Ebonyi State in Nigeria, the number one tourist destination for Nigerians and tourists all over the world. The carnival which begins on 16 December, 2015 and last till 18 December, 2015 will boost the cultural mosaic of Ebonyi people while entertaining the millions of spectators within and outside the State, and promote tourism and investment opportunity for all stakeholders.
The Ebonyi Carnival plans to go a long way. It all started this year when the governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dave Umahi, conceived a vision of making his state the hub for tourism and hospitality in Nigeria and in Africa. According to Chief Charles Ama, “the carnival aims to include more aspects of local heritage and culture and at the same time strengthen the capacity of the locals to participate in an economically beneficial way.”
Recently, Ebonyi State and Abakiliki has become the pride of South-East Nigeria as far as tourism, carnivals and hospitality is concerned. The Carnival presents a perfect platform from brand visibility for consumer and market awareness. Ebonyi Festival will be a yearly event that will bring in thousands of tourists at the time of the year.
The programmes of event at the carnival are drafted by the committee in charge of tourism and cultural activities and new initiatives will be introduced every year. This year, Carnival Committee has put together “Carnival/Governor’s Cup 2015”, a football competition amongst the local governments in the state. The Festival which includes music performances from both local and international artists, fashion shows, pageantry, traditional dances and masquerades.
Other activities lined up for the year according to their work plan, include story-telling Competition which will involve both secondary school and tertiary students, from all the local governments. These competitions are aimed at resuscitating the oral TRADITIONAL culture amongst the youths of the State as well as inculcating the carnival culture.
The Maiden Edition of the Ebonyi Festival (2015) which is themed “In God we stand” which will be unveiled by the Governor of the State Engr. Dave Umahi, who has stated that even though the 2015 annual Ebonyi Festival is the maiden edition, it will hit a high level of participation not minding it is the nfirst of its kind in the state and will grow bigger every year.
