Once upon a time, the Federal Government and Daimler Chrysler AG of Germany had a joint venture business located in Enugu known as Anambra Motor Manufacturing Company Limited (ANAMMCO), which, in its early days, had manufactured commercial vehicles and led in the commercial vehicle market with capacity for over five tonnes in Nigeria. In fact, everything was milk and honey for ANAMMCO in those days.

But one day, the ANAMMCO plant, that once blossomed with manufacturing activities of all sorts became like a cemetery following poor patronage of its Mercedes Benz trucks and buses.

Because of this poor condition of ANAMMCO and the Federal Government’s new national automotive policy as well as the need to grow domestic automobile capacity and generate employment opportunities in the South-east, a subsidiary of ABC Transport Plc, Transit Support Services Limited, and ANAMMCO came together to resuscitate the manufacturing plant.

Because of this resuscitation, a new brand of locally assembled Chinese trucks called Shacman were unveiled at the once idle ANAMMCO plant in Enugu on Thursday 15th January, 2015. Shacman is a brand of the Shaanxi Automobile Group Company Limited of China, which has over 45 years of manufacturing experience and is one of the leading automobile manufacturers in China.

There had been celebrations before and after the unveiling ceremony, and we hope it’ll continue…. until finally, ANAMMCO will once again contribute in making Enugu a mega city.
