My Doubts for 2015 – Ngige

THE senator representing Anambra Central senatorial zone and former governor of the state, Dr. Chris Ngige, yesterday expressed fears about the success of the 2015 presidential election.

He advised that the only way the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, could get it right was by removing those he described as fraudulent state Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs.
Addressing reporters at his campaign office in Awka, Ngige alleged that most of the RECs were biased and fraudulent, adding that unless the way the Osun State REC was removed before the election was done in other states before 2015, it would be difficult for INEC to conduct free, fair and credible election in the country.

He said: “My worry for 2015 general election is that INEC will not be able to dispense with corrupt RECs in different states.
“The Osun State election succeeded because a petition was written against the REC in that state and he was removed and another person brought in, which was what we wanted in Anambra, but INEC refused to listen to us.

“The INEC chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega, has to do an in-house cleansing and carry out personnel adjournments of his staff who will be reporting to him before and after elections, if he wants to get it right in 2015.”
The Senator, who belongs to All Progressives Congress, APC, said the strategy adopted by the party in winning the Osun State governorship election last week would equally be used in 2015.

Ngige also spoke on the APC presidential ticket, debunking the claim in some quarters that APC had zoned its Presidency to any particular zone.
“Before we do the zoning, we will first of all put in place our Board of Trustees, BOT, and National Executive Council, NEC. The only zoning APC did was for party officials.
“All these will have to be done quickly so that the party can kick start its own campaign like President Goodluck Jonathan, who is using all manner of tactics to campaign everywhere.

“We have no time, while Jonathan has started campaigning everyday with many organizations set up. But in the next few weeks, it will be run… run…..run for APC.”
Ngige also said that 50 percent of Boko-Haram insurgents were unemployed youths in the North East, adding that the country needed a government with a human face as APC to tackle challenges like Boko Haram.
