Clash of The Titans:  As Enyimba Tackle Rangers In Enugu

All roads lead to Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, today for the titanic NPFL/Glo Week 22 clash between Rangers International FC and Enyimba International FC of Aba tagged “Oriental derby.”

Rangers’ fans expected the game to be a must-win, as it will also be an acid test in the survival of the Flying Antelopes coach, John Obuh, on the job after a 1-2 defeat by Nembe City in the Week 21 away clash.

The loss left the Enugu side seven steps away from the drop zone (see table) after 21 games, with visiting Enyimba on the sixth spot of the table with impressive points putting them ahead in the title race.

However, NPFL followers on paper have affirmed the game may end in a stalemate if the stiff rivalry between both teams is anything to go by.

Besides, Rangers’ form since the season commenced has not been impressive, even as they have not been able to get the maximum points to improve their status on the table.

Rangers’ poor run so far has cost some of player severe sanctions as suspensions even as coach Obuh has been warned to up the game of the team, according to sources.

Visiting Enyimba in their Week 21 match put up a fine performance under the guidance of Coach Kadiri Ikhana, beating Sunshine Stars of Akure 2-0 to send a warning signal to Rangers that it would be a fierce battle in today’s game.

While Rangers have no particular stars to rely, going by the inconsistency of the players, Enyimba has an array of stars such as Mfon Udoh, among others, that have been showing some consistency, justifying their place in the Federation Cup final.

It is hoped that the centre referee will live up to his billing, as the Rangers management must provide adequate logistics and security in particular to ensure a smooth game.
