Traders Urges Gov. Obiano To Ban Street Trading

Ogbunike Plywood Dealers Association, who recently relocated from Ogalaonye Street in Onitsha to their newly built market along Enugu/Onitsha Expressway in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, have appealed to Governor Willie Obiano to help them develop the area and enforce the law banning street trading.

They specifically want the governor to direct all dealers in building materials in Onitsha to relocate to the new market.

According to the chairman of the market, Chief Josephat Ezenwa, the plywood traders and their keys and building accessories counterparts had entered into an agreement to buy plots of land and develop a common market at Ogbunike, where both parties would transact their businesses independently as they were both in the same line of business.

Surprisingly, according to the chairman, “after building and commissioning the market, our counterparts vehemently refused to pack into the new market, which has rendered many shops empty and overgrown with bushes.” Chief Ezenwa lamented that since the keys and building materials traders had allegedly failed in fulfilling their own side of the agreement reached by both parties, it was affecting their business negatively. He also urged the state government to enforce the law banning street trading in Anambra State.
