Anambra To Open The New N5billion International Market In December

The Anambra State Government, In its bid to decongest Onitsha, the commercial capital of the State, will open the N5 billion naira International market in the state by December. This is in line with Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State’s trade and commerce programme.

Already 1,600 shops out of 20,000 shops expected to be built in the market located at Oba on Onitsha- Owerri Road in Idemili South Local Government Area have been completed.

Inspecting the market, Governor Obiano directed the chairman of the company constructing the market, Alhaji Bukar Mohammed Hassan, to ensure that they provide all the necessary facilities, including enough parking spaces, conveniences, among others were provided.

He commended the work so far done in the multi-billion-naira market, stressing that it was an excellent project, which the state government would support as part of its Private Partnership Programme (PPP) arrangement.

He said one of the cardinal points in his agenda was to encourage private sector-driven participation in the development of the state, which this Anambra International Market is one of them.

He stressed that the market when it fully rakes-off will help to decongest the already congested markets in Onitsha metropolis, which the state government is working hard to achieve.

Hessian, the Group executive chairman of BuKham Group, the developer of the market, said 70 percent of the market has already been completed, assuring that 1,600 shops will be ready by the second week of December. He said when completed, the market will have parking spaces for 1,000 cars at the same time and 1.7km dual carriageway round the market and the walk away would be interlocked.

Alhaji Hassan also said they are providing water, 24-hour power supply, 100 conveniences (toilets and bathrooms), police post, offices for soldiers, Anambra State Vigilant Services (AVS), all to ensure an all round and adequate security in the market in addition to banking facilities.

He then urged traders in Anambra State to avail themselves of the unique opportunity to diversify their businesses and own their own shops
