Enugu Gets Acting Governor

The deputy governor of Enugu State, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, has assumed duty as the acting governor of the state following the commencement of Governor Sullivan Chime’s annual leave.

The commissioner of Information in the state, Mr. Chuks Ugwuoke, disclosed this after the state council meeting in Enugu yesterday.

Ugwuoke said Chime’s annual vacation began yesterday, adding that the governor plans to use the period to go on vacation with members of his extended family to the United States of America.

In a related development, the commissioner of information has disclosed that the state government has concluded plans to acquire 6,000 units of computer laptops for civil servants in the state.

Mr. Ugwoke said the state executive council has already given approval for the purchase of the laptops in batches of one thousand pieces.

He said that the state government will pay fifty percent of the cost of the laptops, while interested civil servants will pay the balance in monthly instalments of N3, 160.67 over a period of one year.

Ugwuoke who addressed journalists in the company of the commissioner in-charge of Enugu State Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA), Mr. Ikechukwu Ugwuegede, said the council also approved the issuance of government white paper on the contract awarded by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) between 2011 – 2012.

He reiterated that the government will commence the prosecution of people who engage in street trading in accordance with the existing law banning such exercise in the state.
