There was pandemonium last Friday at the Delta State-owned College of Education, Agbor, following an alarm raised by a staff of the institution that a vehicle suspected to be laden with improvised explosive device,(IED) was parked at the administrative block.

An eyewitness said that immediately the alarm was raised following the resumption of the day’s work, staff members trooped out of their offices and scampered for safety.

The source stated that the acting Provost, who was among those who fled the environment as soon as the alarm was raised, never returned to the office throughout the day, apparently in fear of the suspicious car.

However, a top management staff of the institution was said to have called the attention of the police who came to evacuate the car, a Toyota Carina II with registration number VB 778 KJA to the station before normalcy returned later in the day.

The mystery car was said to have been parked at the restricted area of the administrative block, which aroused the curiosity of the whistle blower who probed into its content and raised the alarm.

The owner of the mystery car was yet to be identified as at press time. Although, the acting Public Relations Officer of the state police command, DSP Charles Muka said that his office was yet to receive the report but a source at the Agbor Divisional Police Station confirmed the incident, saying investigation has commenced.

The incident that jolted both staff and students came just a day after the Academic Staff Union of the institution suspended its four-months old strike.

It would be recalled that barely a month ago, gunmen suspected to be assassins opened fire in Agbor over alleged defacing of a politician’s billboard, as preparations towards the 2015 general elections continue to gather momentum.

It could not be ascertained if last Friday’s bomb scare was related to the bitter politics that has become the lot of many across the state.
