Former president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Delta South and Central senatorial district, Eze  Peter Chukwu, has advised the Igbo to forget about being the nation’s president for now and put their house in order.

Chukwu expressed dismay over the current disunity with the Igbo race, describing the situation as their greatest undoing.

“It is a pity that the Igbo have not been able to put their acts together. It is also sad that their republican nature and attitude are great setbacks,” lamented the Igbo leader.

Eze Chukwu, who made the observation during a chat with newsmen in Warri further declared: “The Republican stance of my people has created inequality among them. They cannot speak with one voice and with this unfortunate development, it may be very difficult to achieve this lofty height.”

The former Ohanaeze leader therefore, advised the Igbo to support President Goodluck Jonathan to achieve his second term bid, adding that a vote for Jonathan is a vote for all.

“Igbo should support Jonathan and that is the only way forward because getting the presidency is not just by wishful thinking.

“The Igbo need to put structures on ground that will qualify them to become the president of this country,” stressed the Ohanaeze stalwart.

According to him, President Jonathan has done well by appointing Igbo into positions of trust in his administration, adding: “He has effectively neutralised the hatred other Nigerians have against the Igbo.”

He noted that while the Igbo want Nigerians to be strongly united, there  were people who want the country divided, stressing that the effort of Nigeria’s first president, the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, must not be allowed to be in vain.

Taking a view on the nation’s political dispensation in 2015. Eze Chukwu declared,” sadly the level of corruption is alarming and this canker worm must be nipped in the bud.

“We want a nascent democracy that will transform this nation and put our children in the saddle of authority”, remarked the Igbo leader.
