The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday held its fourth meeting in Awka, the Anambra State Capital, The state chapter prayed for the quick recovery of the former Minister Of information – Dora Akunyili

Members wished the former NAFDAC boss who is currently receiving treatment over an ailment in India speedy recovery, expressing hope that she would return to her family and Anambra State in no distant time.

In the meeting presided over by the State Chairman of the party, Barrister Emeka Ibe, the State Executive Committee of the party commended the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party for upholding the Congresses held in the Anambra State chapter of the party on April 8,16 and 26, 2014, for the election of 326 Ward Executives, 21 Local Government Executives and one state Executive led by Barrister Emeka Ibe respectively.

The meeting reaffirmed that “there is no faction within APC in Anambra State and asked all members of the party to remain steadfast, and loyal to the values that stand the party out from others in the state and prepare for the remaining part of the struggle to free Anambra State from the shackles of god-fatherism and imposition”.

While congratulating the leader of the party in the state, Senator Chris Ngige, for his appointment as the Secretary of the APC National Convention holding in Abuja from June 13-14, 2014, the party also described as illegal, unconstitutional, retrogressive and undemocratic, the recent demolition of suspected kidnappers’ building in Aguleri, the home town of the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano.

State Publicity Secretary of the party, Okelo Madukaife, shortly after the meeting said “Government of Anambra State led by Chief Willie Obiano directing the demolition of three buildings reportedly providing shelter to suspected criminals in the state is not only vile and crude, but patently runs against the grains of the fundamental human rights enshrined in Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.”

Continuing, the APC state image maker said Gov. Obiano wants to score cheap popularity by taking such hasty decision, adding that whoever advised him to do that, advised him wrongly.

“It remains to our recognition a fundamental human right for every accused person to be presumed innocent until pronounced guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction. We however stand in defence of Anambra State presumed innocents from any premature punishment without the due process and conviction, even by a Junta, eager to demolish those to be protected so as to score cheap gallery points with sacred life and rights of Ndi Anambra.

We have heard sympathizers of this illegitimate Junta, some of them unfortunate lawyers refer to, without citing an Act of House of Assembly which they claim gives the illegitimate government headed by one who is under trial for a criminal offence to demolish the house of another suspected criminal without trial and see this argument as puerile, in the face of superior laws of the land and the world.” He stated.
