The Legislative arm of Anambra East Local Government in Anambra State is in disarray following an impeachment notice purportedly served on the Leader of the Legislative Council, Mr. Hillary Uduh, by 10 councilors of the local government council.

Anambra East, which is the home local government area of Governor Willie Obiano, erupted in crisis when some aggrieved members of the council passed a vote of no confidence on the leader and impeached him.

In a letter signed by 10 of the 15 councilors of the council, the impeached leader was accused of  “gross misconduct.”
The letter read in part:  “The House after severally and carefully investigating the allegation of gross misconduct leveled against the impeached leader, Hillary Uduh, passed a vote of no confidence on him and he is hereby impeached.”
Consequently, he was  replaced by the Deputy leader, Mr. Adeh Michael.

But the embattled leader, Mr. Uduh described the impeachment as illegal, null and avoid, adding: “there was no impeachment on my person. It was fake, the signatures you saw in the purported letter of impeachment were forged and the so-called impeachment was done under a mango tree.

Also, the Chief Whip of the Legislative Council, Ifeanyi Chinweze, described the impeachment as illegal and a nullity, saying that as a member of the council, he was not aware of the purported impeachment. He said if impeachment was served on the leader, the Clerk of the council ought to endorse the letter.

When contacted, the Chairman of the Anambra East council, Mr. Hillary Udeano said the purported impeachment did not hold water, adding that some councilors were not happy and tried to channel their grievances the wrong way.
